The Aftermath
Flooded basements, debris, trees snapped in half, that was Hurricane Irene for ya'! Parts of the Island were hit worse than others, particularly South Beach, New Dorp, and Willowbrook saw up to five feet of water. Living in Great Kills, bordering Eltingville, we weren't hit so rough. Thank God! It was terrifying alright, not knowing whether or not a tree would collapse right onto your property or your automobile, but taking a walk around my neighborhood today, I can tell you that many are still without power, with additional twigs, branches, and leftover water making today a long day. You can check out more photos of Hurricane Irene's tour of the Island at the Staten Island Advance website here.
